Coral tree

Scientific name: Erythrina abyssinica

Family: Fabaceae

Origin: Africa

Medicinal use: Coral tree was introduced to the country as an ornamental species for large and medium-sized gardens, due to its erect and compact bouquets of striking red, knife-shaped flowers, characteristic of the pores, which open from the bottom up, giving the cluster an appearance like a king’s scepter. The wood is soft, light and very porous which allows it to be used to make toys, crafts, drums, kitchen utensils and small sculptures.
