Medicinal use: The Lignum-vitae is a native tree of tropical America, with wide distribution in the Caribbean islands. The flowers are solitary of light blue or violet color grouping in axillary peduncles. The fruit is a dry green capsule that contains the seeds. Used for the treatment of rheumatism, pharyngitis and laryngitis and externally used to soothe toothaches and rheumatic pain.
