Origin: Mexico, C and S America, Caribbean
Medicinal use: It can be grown to use its fruit commercially or for ornamental purposes. Bittersweet fruits are desired by people and are sold fresh in the markets. They are used to make wines, creams, ice cream, frescoes etc. Medicinally it has been used in cases of atony, snake bites, colitis, diarrhea, fever, gastritis, pyorrhea, tumors, as an astringent, refreshing, diuretic, liquor and piscicide.
