Medicinal use:Its seeds are used in human food and as fodder for animal feed. They contain between 10 and 17% protein. It is a grain widely used in Caribbean cuisine in countries such as Colombia (Caribbean Coast) where soups are made with salted beef rib, smoked pork, bocachico and in the preparation of sweets.
