Medicinal use: It is a striking ornamental plant, widely cultivated in tropical gardens. It is the “National Flower” of the Caribbean island of Barbados. In India it is found in tropical rain forests. With its beautiful yellow, red and orange inflorescence, it is colloquially called “Ratnagundhi”. The juice of its leaves cures fever, the juice of the flower is used for aches, and the seeds for coughs, respiratory difficulties, and chest pain.
