Medicinal use: This species native to the Antilles is one of the most important of this well-known genus. Its aromatic oil is highly valued in the perfume industry, and is also cultivated as a repellent for mosquitoes. A sweet herbal tea is made from the clove-scented leaves as well as being used as a condiment. This herb can be prescribed as an antipyretic, or to expel intestinal worms, particularly in children.
