Medicinal use: Traditionally Q. amara is used as a digestive, to treat fever, against hair parasites (lice, fleas) and mosquito larvae in ponds (and does not harm fish). The infusion or maceration of the wood is used as a bitter tonic to increase the secretion of the salivary glands, gastric and bile juices. The decoction of the powder is used to treat digestive conditions (diarrhea, dysentery, dyspepsia, stomach pain, flatulence and halitosis) and to improve intestinal transit.
