Medicinal use: It is a small to medium-sized tree reaching up to 20 m tall, with smooth, scaly bark. It grows in Southeast Asia, India and the Philippines and is widely cultivated as an ornamental plant in tropical and subtropical areas. It is a species commonly cultivated in the parks and gardens of the Central Valley as an ornamental. Although in Costa Rica it is cultivated for the beauty of its flowers, in the areas of origin it is used as a timber species.
