Origin: Tropical Americas
Medicinal use: In the Mexican states Chiapas, Oaxaca and Veracruz, it is used to treat various digestive ailments, such as diarrhea, when it is liquid with food remains, pushing and “tenesmus”; dysentery with blood and mucus, intestinal gas, vomiting and oral diseases. Both the leaves and the fruit or the root are used, mainly boiled.
